Norwich Harbor, A Lesson Learned

Headed out to norwich harbor today, when i arived there were about 10 boats in a tight circle landing schoolies with frequency, I was throwing storms with varying sizes and colors and was wondering what the hell they were using that was working so well, later would i get my answer, so i continued fishing shooting the s*** with a guy named Mat who was great company, giving me some insite on locations in the area to try,
then when i finally was about to have enough fishing i got a good smack and brought in a decent schoolie about 25" then a gentleman aproached me and asked me if i was retreaving as fast as the man was observing, i answered yes i was bringing in my storm at what i thought was a slow retrieve, but then Ed handed me a super fluke diped in a chartruse spike it and said to try that, as soon as it hit the water and started its decent i got smacked, a 16" then on my next cast same thing smacked another one. i ended up losing the super fluke on some of the abundance of debris form the recent storm so i packed it up but not before thanking Ed for being a true Gentleman and taking the time to teach a total stranger a good imediate fix to my problem and for that I am thankful
Thanks Ed and I will head over to Bob's Bait to get hooked up,

  • 6 Keepers huh?? Nice! Are they talking at night/dark is when they were hitting them??
What time were you down there?
The boat should be put away, but I like to use it all winter long. Maybe we can hook up sometime and do a trip down there.

  • no kidding small world, yea unfourtunately for me i dont have a boat as of now hopefuly someday soon, i was there for a couple of hours with nothing went over to the cop shop side as well but nothing. was talking with a couple of locals that said there were about 6 keepers brought in last night, think i might give it a shot tonight. Thanks for the coment
maybe i will see ya on the water some day

  • Hey, I was down there in the Harbor myself yesterday. From 12-4 pm
I was in my boat with 2 other guys.
I was using the zooms albino super flukes with my own poured 1/2 oz chartreuse jig head and managed 7 fish and dropped 2, my biggest was 22"
It sure is easier fishing the harbor in a boat.
Good deal on learning the trick for them. Low and slow, be prepared to lose some gear.
